Art and Sales - An Art Mediator Reports

Post by Mitu100@ »

Sabine Klement : Basically, my job is to bring artists together with art lovers - so that both sides benefit from the contact. In addition to pure mediation, my work consists of ensuring smooth processes for renting, selling or events and, of course, advising both parties. For the customer, it is more a question of which specific works of art are suitable for them. What suits the space or which framing is the right one? In many cases, my job consists of canada telegram screening removing a good portion of the fear of the art market. I try to accompany the artists themselves on an ongoing basis in their work in order to make their artistic quality visible to the outside world. I also advise them on commercial and legal issues.

CSCRM : How do you get into a job like that? As far as I know, there is no degree course to become an art dealer or mediator.

Sabine Klement : My career path was not particularly straightforward. I originally studied law, but during my studies I found the prospect of being constantly involved in disputes less and less attractive. Fine art has always been a major interest of mine. I simply love being surrounded by works of art and dealing with changing visual impressions and worlds of thought! I then studied art history for a few semesters, which was very interesting, but didn't help me much in what I wanted to do, namely to circulate contemporary art, so to speak. I also found a job in a small gallery, but it soon ran into financial difficulties. I got the impression that something was going wrong in the conventional art trade.
