Instagram's algorithm is a mysterious mechanism. Much has been written, tested and speculated about it, but how does it really work? Instagram wants to give its users more insight into this from now on. That is why they are starting a series of articles in which they take users and creators into the wonderful world of obscurity. I will share the most interesting insights from their first update in this article.
Why does Instagram use an algorithm?
To understand how the algorithm works, it is first useful to know why Instagram country email list works with an algorithm.
In the first six years, Instagram did not use an algorithm. Back then, your timeline was 'just' all the posts of people you follow, in chronological order. With few users and followers, that is of course not a problem.
But the popularity of this platform grew, so it became too much. Do you follow 500 people? Then it is a daily task to view and read all the updates. In 2016, users missed an average of 70% of all posts in the feed. Even the posts of your best friends or accounts that you find interesting (and therefore prefer not to miss).
That’s why Instagram started developing an algorithm in 2016. Makes sense, right? They started working on ranking factors that ensure you see ‘what you want to see’. Or at least: what Instagram thinks you want to see.
