How to build a strong product team? Experience of Head of product Aitarget One

Post by Reddi2 »

Our product was born inside Aitarget as a separate direction for small and medium businesses, when the company was already a Facebook partner and worked with large clients.

I enjoy spending time with the team. Photo from the team lunch, I will also tell about this cool ritual in the article :)
It was a challenge to create and develop a product in a strong company, but from scratch.
As a result, we have a platform for official payment of all online advertising in one window, tools for campaign analysis and optimization, independent partnership with Facebook and Google, and more.

While we were getting there, we made a dozen mistakes, tested the best practices of the market, changed several developers... But we assembled a dream team and developed a comfortable system.

Let's take everything in order.

Entering a new market with a “manual” MVP is ok
Our journey began with reselling advertising on Facebook. We knew about this pain point for our clients and could solve it – issue closing documents for advertising payments.

For those who are not immersed in the topic: Facebook still does not provide closing documents, which is why advertisers cannot pay for advertising from a bank account, take into account expenses and receive a tax deduction. Aitarget One can help with this.

On April 1 (this is not a joke) 2019, we released MVP. We created a importance of ig database website where you could only register and issue an invoice for payment. The main work was done in correspondence with the client. Our manager (at first, I myself) wrote to the client by email and requested the necessary data, and then reported on each stage: “We will now create an account for you”, “We have replenished your account”, “Documents are ready”, and so on.

Old Aitarget One interface
One of the first interfaces of the Aitarget One platform - there were 3 windows for entering client data and that's it :)
For comparison. Now we have a full-fledged web platform with several tools. The client can independently enter data, make payments, receive documents and manage the balance and cashback. There is no need to communicate by mail - there is a convenient chat.

What the Aitarget One platform looks like now
At the start, the team consisted of me and 2 developers. We outsourced the design.

After a successful MVP test, we started expanding the team. First of all, we hired a designer. Since our product was developing in a competitive environment, it was important for us to make the most convenient, beautiful and understandable interface. Without a cool UI, we simply would not have been able to compete with large companies that had already established themselves on the market .
