Pros and Cons of TikTok Creator Fund

Post by fomayof928@mowline »

To be fair, comparing branded content to pure viral content is like apples and oranges. That spend is still minuscule compared to competing video platforms like YouTube.

This low payout phenomenon isn’t just limited to germany b2b leads smaller creators, either.

Recent articles from TechCrunch and Engadget further highlight creators’ misgivings about the platform.

This criticism is understandable given that TikTok originally marketed the Creator Fund as a career path. In their own words, the fund offers creators an opportunity to “turn their passion into a livelihood.” TikTok’s language has since softened.

In fact, the platform has been silent recently about the Creator Fund. The last official update on the status of the fund was in March 2021. Likewise, TikTok’s @CreatorPortal hasn’t posted about the fund since 2021. They've since focused on the creator marketplace and more traditional brand-creator partnerships.

Are funds being restructured? Is TikTok transforming? We'll have to wait and see.

As for whether you should join the fund, the short answer is "it depends." Let’s look at the pros and cons to help you decide.

advantage
You get paid! Even if the pay isn't high, making money for the content you would have created is a nice bonus.
The Creator Fund will not impact your content or engagement. TikTok makes it clear that joining the fund will not in itself enhance or limit your influence. Compare this to #gifted or #ad posts, which tend to have lower engagement. In other words, you don't have to change the content.
The fund does not lock you into a contract or require you to terminate a partnership elsewhere. If nothing else, it's just another revenue stream.
shortcoming
The payment situation is not good. Likewise, creators can earn more through marketplace or independent brand partnerships.
Income is inconsistent. Are there any creators who truly make a living from funding alone? Probably not. Still, the ambiguity of TikTok's compensation formula doesn't tell creators how much they should plan to earn.
