An electronic sick leave certificate (ESC) is a sick leave certificate in digital format. It confirms that the employee was unable to perform their job duties due to their own illness, caring for a sick family member, or, for example, pregnancy. The document is usually issued on the first day of visiting a doctor. On its basis, the employee can receive benefits — cash payments for the period of their official absence.
Previously, a sick leave certificate could be opened both electronically and on paper - everything depended on the patient's wishes and the technical capabilities of the employer.
