CONAKRY - With the aim of training young people in digital technology and strengthening their employability, Orange Guinea and the German Cooperation inaugurated the 13th Orange Digital Center on Wednesday, December 7, an ecosystem entirely dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation.

This solemn and historic ceremony was sweden mobile database by high-ranking Guinean political and academic authorities, including the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, the Minister of Urban Planning, Housing and Regional Development, Colonel Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, representatives of the German Embassy in Guinea, members of the Management and the Presidency of the Board of Directors of Orange Guinea and representatives of the Management Committee of Orange Africa and the Middle East.

After Tunisia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Mali, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Madagascar, Morocco, Liberia and Botswana, the 13th Orange Digital Center in Africa and the Middle East is being inaugurated in Guinea.

With a surface area of 600 m2, it brings together the four strategic programs of the Orange group, namely a Code School, a FabLab Solidaire digital manufacturing workshop, an Orange Fab start-up accelerator, as well as Orange Ventures Middle East and Africa (the Orange Group's investment fund which invests in the most promising startups of the Orange Digital Center).

All of these programs are free and open to all. They range from digital training for young people, 90% of which is practical, to support for project leaders and startup acceleration.

Operating as a network, the Orange Digital Centers enable an exchange of experiences and expertise from one country to another and offer a simple and inclusive approach to strengthening the employability of young people, encouraging innovative entrepreneurship and promoting the local digital fabric.

Officially launched on December 7, 2022, the Orange Digital Center in Guinea is already operational to host several digital training courses and events. In addition, Orange Guinea, in partnership with universities, will provide free training to students and deploy Orange Digital Center Clubs, extensions of the Orange Digital Center, in certain universities in the regions. This aims to complete the system to provide as many people as possible with access to new technologies and help them use them fully.

Orange and the German Cooperation are working together as part of a development partnership under the "develloPPP program," which GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The goal is to realize their shared vision: promoting youth employability and access to ICT jobs for women and girls—while supporting the country's sustainable growth and digital transformation.

This initiative is fully in line with Orange's commitment as a responsible operator and responds to the following 6 sustainable development objectives (SDG 4): quality education, (SDG 5) gender equality, (SDG 8) decent work and economic growth, (SDG 9) industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 10) reduced inequalities and (SDG 17) partnership for the achievement of the objectives.

Alioune Ndiaye, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Orange Africa and the Middle East, expressed his pride in inaugurating this digital training space.

" It is an honor for me to inaugurate our 13th Orange Digital Center today in Guinea, which is part of a network of 32 Orange Digital Centers that will be deployed not only in Africa and the Middle East, but also in Europe by 2023. The objective is to democratize access to digital technology for young graduates and non-graduates, give them access to the latest technological skills to strengthen their employability, and prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow, " he said.

Frank Lütje, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Guinea, believes that the future of Guinea lies in its youth—and digital technology is the future of the world. " This initiative aims to strengthen young people's access to the job market and to entrepreneurship so that they can fully contribute to a better future for their generations and for Guinea as a whole, " he said.

For the CEO of Orange Guinea, it is important for their company to ensure that young people are not only competitive in the job market, but that they can also find the resources necessary to train in new technologies, start businesses and in turn create new jobs.

" Orange Digital Center is one of the elements of the response included in the Orange group's strategy, to enable young people to meet this need. It is a unique ecosystem dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation. It is a living space, a space for reflection for projects that are set to grow and allow us to go as far as possible, " insisted Ousmane Boly Traoré.

This initiative by Orange Guinea is fully in line with government policy, declared Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.

" The government, through the department I have the honor of leading, has conducted an assessment of civil service executives' digital skills. We are therefore aware of the impact of digital technology on our country's growth. Hence this initiative, which will allow us to offer targeted training to increase the skills of our civil servants. The digitalization of the State has also been elevated to the level of national priority by the Head of State.

"I am therefore delighted that Orange Guinea, beyond being a regular contributor, is fully aligned with this policy that the Government is promoting. I cannot therefore conclude without thanking Orange for its tenacity and its desire to give more opportunities to the young people of this country to be present in the competition of tomorrow. We hope that this project will extend throughout the country, " declared the government spokesperson.
