youth theater performances under the stars in Ojai
Rubicon Theater Company announces its dramatic return to shows with an eclectic season of three youth theater performances to be presented at the open-air amphitheater at Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai – A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shrek the Musical and Les Misérables .
Over 50 young people between the ages of 18 and 21 enthusiastically participated in the Education and Outreach program this summer. The return to performing arts is a huge excitement after the pandemic drove the program completely away last summer.
The program operates under the direction of multi-hyphenated award winner Kirby Ward. Our production design team worked on all three shows with set design by Eliot Ohlemeyer, lighting design by Adam Dunn, sound design by Nichole Baffone, costume design by Abra Flores, technical direction and construction sets by Naomi Miyahara and Scenic Art by Audrey Martel.
While the Rubicon Theater Company itself is located in the cultural district phone number library of downtown Ventura, the theater is unable to accommodate the program due to the pandemic and substantial renovations. We are delighted that the Villanova Preparatory School welcomed the program with open arms and that their campus has become a hive of creative activity as the cast, crew and creatives create the magic of the theater with a stunning backdrop. outdoors against the setting sun.
A Midsummer Night’s dream
The season kicks off with Fearless Shakespeare’s presentation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on July 9-10. Under the light of a magical midsummer moon, romance is unleashed as prankster fairies of the forest meddle in the affairs of four young Athenians and a group of amateur actors. One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, this playful play celebrates the whimsical, dreamlike and at times silly nature of love and desire.
