This division is named after another famous hockey player, Arkady Chrnyshev. He distinguished himself with the Dynamo Moscow team and the Soviet Union national team. He was also a national football champion with Dynamo three times. The Chernyshev division is part of the Eastern Conference and includes the teams: Brys Astana, Amur Khabarovsk, Metallurg Novokuznetsk, Sibir Novosibirsk, Avangard Omsk and Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
9. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
A special chapter in the history of the KHL is occupied by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Last year on September 7, this team was the victim of a plane crash in which all the team members and the phone number list technical staff lost their lives. For this reason, Lokomotiv was forced to give up their participation in the previous season, the accident occurring just before the first match of the season that was supposed to take place in Minsk.
Famous names in hockey lost their lives then, such as the Slovak Pavol Demitra, the Czechs Karel Rachunek, Josef Vasicek and Jan Marek, the Swede Stefan Liv, the Canadian coach Brad McCrimmon or the Russian Alexander Karpotsev. Lokomotiv returned this season, achieving a victory in its debut with 5-2 in the away match against Sibir Novosibirsk.
10.KHL 2012-13.
The current edition is the first in which 26 teams from 7 countries participate in the competition. Along with the teams from Russia, we find Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia), Donbass Donetsk (Ukraine), Lev Prague (Czech Republic), Dinamo Riga (Latvia), Dinamo Minsk (Belarus) and Barys Astana (Kazakhstan). Each team will play 52 games in the regular season. The first eight teams in each conference will qualify for the play-offs. The final will be played according to the best of seven games system, the last act of the competition being called the Gagarin Cup. The opening game, which was called the Opening Cup until last year, is this year called the Lokomotiv Cup, in memory of the deceased players of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team and is actually a replay of the final of the previous edition. Two games between Dynamo Moscow and SKA.St. Petersburg will take place in New York. The 2012-13 edition of the KHL will designate its champion in the spring of next year.
