Who will the GDPR privacy law apply to?

Post by Arzina3225 »

wo months to go until the GDPR privacy law comes into effect and there are still many questions. Many articles have already discussed marketing, but what is important for everyone? I answer the five most frequently asked questions.

The GDPR ( General Data Protection Regulation ) applies to every entrepreneur or organization that deals with personal data. Every entrepreneur has customers and the name of your customer is already personal data. Even with comments under blogs on a website, the blogger already has to deal with the GDPR.

Only data for personal use – think of the data in your phone book, birthday calendar, phone numbers in your phone and WhatsApp groups, and in personal notes – is not covered by the GDPR.

2. What is considered personal data?
Personal data naturally includes names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. The Chamber of Commerce data of sole proprietorships and general partnerships are usually also personal data.

What changes under the GDPR is that a switzerland whatsapp number business extension number and business email address are also personal data. Previously, my personal business email address [email protected], for example, would not have been personal data, because it is an email address that belongs to my company and is not my personal email address. But under the GDPR, this type of data is also personal data. That makes it difficult for sole proprietorships and general partnerships: a general email address such as [email protected] can still be personal data, because only the owner of the company uses that email address.

In addition, there are also special and sensitive personal data, such as a citizen service number, religious beliefs, sexual preference, race and medical or biometric data and more of that kind of information. These may be collected less quickly than general personal data.

3. When may you collect personal data?
First of all, personal data may only be collected if a basis from the GDPR can be used for this. Then, this data may only be collected for a specific purpose and the data may only be used for that purpose.
