How much space the second and third listings take up?

7. Fix 404 links
Links pointing to 404 pages on your site aren't helping you rank. You're just ignoring them:

It's not uncommon for sites to have a large number of authoritative links that could help them rank, but they point to dead pages that have been deleted over time and never redirected.

Find these pages using SEMrush's Backlink Analysis tool .

Enter your domain into the tool and go to the "Indexed Pages" tab. Make sure to check the "Target URL Error" box:

target url error

These are linked pages that now have no authority ( PageRank ) because they are dead.

You can fix these issues with 301 redirects or by relaunching the page.

8. Stealing links that point to your competitors' 404s
While we're talking about links pointing to 404 pages, SEOs will see this as an opportunity to clean up their own messes, and make the links they've earned work harder. However, they also see it as a link building tactic that can help steal links that competitors have stopped pointing to a dead page.

Instead of running your own domain through the Backlink Analytics tool, run your competitor's domain and in moments, you'll have a list of all of their pages that have links pointing to a 404.

Broken link building

There's a good chance that you have (or could create) content that corresponds to the original page on your competitor's website, and nothing stops you from reaching out to them and suggesting your own URL as a replacement.

You'll help the webmaster fix broken outbound links on their own site while suggesting a replacement. In many cases, everyone wins. You can read more about how to do this in our guide on broken link building .

9. Use an FAQ schema for your SERPs
If you already have prominent positions, you should be careful. Look oman mobile database at ways to increase the visibility your listings have in the SERPs to push competitors down the page.

A good way to do this is to integrate an FAQ schema. Just take a look at the example results below:

This is what FAQ schema markup brings you. FAQ schema markup is a good idea for those questions you answer in your content so that they appear directly in search results. It's a tactic you should consider if your page includes Q&A style content. Even if you already rank high, you'll be able to push your competitors down the first page.
