The answer to the question whether you can make money by investing in generic domains is similar, although a little more optimistic. You can do it, but you obviously have to know how.
My story as a domainer
In case you weren't clear. A domainer is a person who invests in domains with the aim of making a profit . I started investing in domains in 2005 with my brother. Some of you will remember this. I think it japan phone number sample was in November of the same year that .es domains were finally released and everyone, without having to be a company or have a brand, could freely register a domain.
I had experienced the evolution of .de domains first hand. They were a total success, even replacing the .com domain in popularity. Seeing this evolution, I almost assumed that in Spain we were going to be able to experience a very similar scenario. In the best of cases, I even saw the .es domain representing the entire Spanish-speaking world because of the “ es español” thing. I must admit that it wasn’t quite like that. I made a lot of money with some and lost some money with many. The truth is that this requires dedication if you want to make a profit . Apart from uploading them to Sedo (auction buying and selling platform), I didn’t do much to be honest.
I have, however, sold domains such as campingfrancia.es or streetart.es for over 1,000 euros each. It must also be said that this is not the rule, but rather the exception. I turned down an offer of 7,500 euros for immobilien.es (real estate in German) which, looking back, was a serious mistake. Well, I'm going to stop here because otherwise I could write a book on the subject...
